Slovenia is
a small European country with a population of
2 million, nestled between the Alps and the
Adriatic Sea (part of the Mediterranean),
between Pannonian plains and the contrasting
Karst with its Postojna Cave - home to the
Proteus - and Lipica stables, home to
Lipizzaner horses. It is surrounded by Italy
to the West, Austria to the North, Hungary to
the North-East, Croatia to the East and South
and the Adriatic Sea to the South-West. To
give you an approximate idea of its location,
Slovenia's capital Ljubljana is a 3-hour
drive from Venice, Italy, a 4-hour drive from
Vienna, Austria and about the same distance
from Munich in Germany.
The Republic
of Slovenia is a parliamentary democracy and
is a member of the European Union.
